Shillong, Jul 16: Today’s OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2021-22 match between Rangdajied United FC and defending champions Shillong Lajong FC had to be postponed before it could get underway due to waterlogging caused by heavy rain at Third Ground, Polo.

Match officials took the call at 4PM, the scheduled start time.

Although the rain was already letting up by then, there was too much standing water on the pitch and the time required for the teams to warm up would have pushed the start too far into the evening.

This is the second match of the season affected by rain, both of which have involved Shillong Lajong. On 21st June, Mawlai SC were leading 1-0 against Lajong before heavy rain fell and the game was abandoned on 62 minutes. The remaining minutes were played out at a later date.

The Shillong Sports Association, organisers of the OC Blue SPL, later announced that the match will go ahead on Monday, which was originally scheduled as a rest day, at 4PM.
