Shillong, Aug 11: Chesterpaul Lyngdoh has been signed by FC Bengaluru United, TSR has learnt.
Lyngdoh was last seen with Rangdajied United in the ongoing Shillong Premier League, for whom he scored their first goal of the season in the club’s opening match. Curiously, the midfielder didn’t really shine in the SPL but, then again, neither has his club.
Now, Lyngdoh will be playing for a team that have their sights set on defending their local BDFA Super Division League title and then competing in the I-League qualification tournament.
The Bangalore club have a history of signing up Meghalaya players – Aenam Jyrwa, Batskhem Thangkhiew, Kynsailang Khongsit and Phrangki Buam have all played for them in the past. Recently, Hardy Cliff Nongbri also joined up. Several other players from the SPL have also travelled to the southern city for trials for FCBU and another club.
The 24-year-old Lyngdoh has already played for numerous teams but this will be his first from South India, TSR understands. He has previously played for local side Ryntih as they attempted to qualify for the I-League, Sudeva Delhi, Real Kashmir, Churchill Brothers, Mohun Bagan, Pune FC and FC Pune City.
With Ryntih, he was part of the squad that beat Bengaluru United in last year’s I-League Qualifiers.
Lyngdoh will add plenty of experience to FCBU, as he has 56 I-League caps in all, as well as experience in the Durand Cup, Calcutta Football League and other competitions.
