Meghalaya kickboxers bag 24 medals at national tourney

Shillong, Jan 22: Meghalaya kickboxers returned from the WAKO India National Kickboxing Federation Cup with a commendable haul of 8 gold, 5 silver and 11 bronze medals.

The tournament was held at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi from 16th to 20th January.

Among Meghalaya’s gold medallists were Hameshaniah Suiam and Pynnehbor Mylliemngap, two of the state’s most successful kickboxers in recent times.

Suiam, from Shangpung, West Jaintia Hills, retained his national title in the -57kg category in the Senior Point Fighting. This was the fifth year that the world No. 5 and 1st Dan black belt holder has won the event, the Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association (MSKA) said in a press release.

Pynnehbor Mylliemngap

Mylliemngap, a class nine student hailing from Smit, retained his national title for the fourth time in the Musical Form Hard Style in the senior category.

The other medallists were not listed by the MSKA, though the association plans to felicitate the kickboxers tomorrow.
