Shillong, Apr 1: Shillong Lajong FC have roped in an additional foreign striker, Onwemelu Emmanuel Uchenna of Nigeria, for the Super Cup.
Uchenna comes in for Saihou Jagne, who the club said “had to return home … to attend personal matters.”
In a press release issued yesterday SLFC said that the 25-year-old Uchenna has played a significant amount of his recent career in Sri Lanka for clubs like Thihariya Youth SC and Java Lane FC, for whom he has scored plenty of goals.
Lajong will play their first Super Cup match on 4th April against FC Pune City. All of the Super Cup matches will be held in Bhubaneswar.
Yesterday, in the tournament’s opening fixture, the I-League’s Aizawl FC defeated the Indian Super League’s Chennaiyin FC 5-3 in a thrilling penalty shootout after extra time ended 2-2.
