Shillong, Apr 26: Loreto Convent won the U-14 and U-16 girls’ team titles in the East Khasi Hills Inter School Athletics Meet, the final day of which was held here today.

H Elias Higher Secondary School won the boys’ U-14 title and Sacred Heart Boys Higher Secondary were the winners in the U-16 division.

St Mary’s Higher Secondary took the girls’ U-18 trophy, while St Anthony’s Higher Secondary claimed the title in the corresponding boys’ event.

More than 30 schools took part with the events ranging from field disciplines, such as shot put and the high jump, to a bevy of field events, with the 4x100m relay the climax on the final day. The weather almost behaved itself, with rain staying away until the final medal and trophy distribution.

The trophies were given away by the chief guest, EKH Deputy Commissioner Peter Dkhar, guest of honour, Sports & Youth Affairs Director Matsiewdor War Nongbri, and EKH District Sports Officer George Lyngdoh. It will be the last such tournament for the latter, who is scheduled to retire from government service in a few days’ time.
