Shillong, May 21: The Chief Minister’s State Level U-12 Football Tournament for boys and girls kicked off today at Third Ground in Polo with a total of 352 young footballers from all over the state representing their respective districts.
The district teams will compete in a league format during the initial group matches before the knockout semifinals and finals.
The most one-sided result on the day saw West Jaintia Hills (WJH) beat West Garo Hills (WGH) 9-0 in the girls’ division. Banri Toi scored five goals for her side, while Deiwi War also recorded a hat-trick. Asthania contributed one goal to WJH’s mammoth total.
Other girls’ games saw South West Khasi Hills (SWKH) blank South West Garo Hills (SWGH) 4-0, which was the same margin in the match between West Khasi Hills (WKH) and South Garo Hills (SGH), where the former were victorious. East Khasi Hills (EKH) then defeated East Jaintia Hills (EJH) 3-1.
In the boys’ division EKH rolled over North Garo Hills (NGH) 8-0 in the final match of the day. Before that WKH had beaten East Garo Hills (EGH) 4-0 and SGH defeated SWGH 3-0. The 9AM kick-off saw WJH hold WGH to a 1-1 draw.
The finals will be held on 25th May at the JN Stadium from 10AM onwards.
