Ri-Bhoi continue to lead athletics medal table, North Garo Hills move to 3rd

Shillong, May 31: Ri-Bhoi and East Khasi Hills (EKH) continue to hold first and second place respectively in the medals table on the second day of the State Level Chief Minister’s Inter-School Athletic Meet, but North Garo Hills (NGH) jumped from fourth into third spot, dropping West Jaintia Hills (WJH) into fourth.

NGH added four gold medals to their overnight tally, while WJH only picked up one.

Two new meet records were set today – Baiaaihun Ryntathiang (EKH) ran the girls’ U-16 200m final in 28.78 seconds, while NGH’s Ladin Penang jumped a height of 1.76m in the U-16 boys’ high jump.

NGH’s other three gold medals came in U-18 boys’ discus, U-18 boys’ javelin and U-18 girls’ javelin.

Meanwhile, South West Garo Hills picked up their first medal of the meet with Rakkamston Ch Marak taking bronze in the U-16 boys’ high jump. Only East Garo Hills now remain medal-less.

The events are scheduled to end tomorrow.
