Shillong, Jun 14: North East Indian Goal (NEIG), a new “startup sports NGO” based in East Jaintia Hills, launched a five-year football development project, ‘She Can Play’, in Rngad earlier this month.
In a press release today the NEIG said that the objective of the project is to promote football skills in talented young girls from the village.
“Through this project NEIG will provide regular coaching camp events throughout the year,” the NGO said. “NEIG will also provide training equipment to the girls.”
The organisation picked Rngad for the launch as it is the football hub of East Jaintia Hills and has provided many players in the district team.
NEIG also promised that it will select the best players and take them to explore and display their skills at various leagues/tournaments in India.
Officials of NEIG, Batbitbha Bareh and Ajoymeson Lyngdoh said that they have “high hopes” for the success of the inaugural project, which will be taken to other villages and districts if it really gets going.
