Shillong, Sep 25: The opening day of the 2nd Open Futsal Tournament, organised by the Futsal Association of Meghalaya in collaboration with the office of East Khasi Hills District Sports Officer through the District Sports Promotion Society and supported by the Futsal Association of India, began here today at the Laban SC Indoor Stadium with 16 electrifying matches and 84 goals in all.
There are 32 teams taking part in the men’s division and eight in the women’s division. The tournament will be conducted on a league-cum-knockout format.
Shri D Dann, East Khasi Hills District Sports Officer and Secretary of the District Sports Promotion Society, was the chief guest at the opening and assured of his assistance in promoting futsal in Meghalaya. Also present included the former EKH DSO, Shri George E Lyngdoh.
The opening match in the morning saw Shillong Press Club beaten by Wahingdoh Super 5 by a margin of 3 goals to 0 in Group F.
