Shillong, Oct 14: Meghalaya were denied victory by 1 run in their opening game of the Women’s U-19 T20 League 2018-19 against Sikkim in a rain-affected match in Perecherla, Andhra Pradesh, today.
It was a tough pill to swallow for the Meghalaya women’s team as rain fell right towards the end of the game where Sikkim required 12 runs to win from nine deliveries remaining. Using the VJD method (an alternative to the Duckworth-Lewis method) Sikkim were ahead of the required runs by one.
Meghalaya were put in to bat and captain Neha Hajong top-scored with 28 not out, with Sildamicresha Marbaniang (15) and Deiphibapynshngain L Mawnai (19) adding some helpful runs as Meghalaya finished on 91/4 in their 20 overs. Hajong and Marbaniang had put on 52 for Meghalaya’s first wicket. Three Meghalaya batsmen were run out.
In the chase Sikkim reached 80/5 in 18.3 overs before rain forced an early end to the game.
Mawnai was the pick of Meghalaya’s bowlers, taking 2/11 in four overs, while Thymmei Lyngdoh also bagged a couple of wickets (2/15 in four overs). Hajong claimed 1/21.
Meghalaya will next take on Gujarat tomorrow at the same venue.
