Shillong, Oct 22: Iaineh SC and Jaiaw Pdeng won the women’s and men’s events at the State Open Basketball Championship 2018 here on Saturday.
The tournament was conducted by Iaineh SC in collaboration with the Meghalaya Basketball Association (MBA) and ran from 13th to 20th October at the JN Sports Complex. There were 17 men’s teams and six women’s teams.
According to a press release issued by the MBA today Iaineh SC defeated Nongrim Hills in a very close final by 61 points to 59. In the men’s final Jaiaw Pdeng beat Iaineh 61-48.
The most promising female player award went to Banroi Kharsyntiew of Shillong United, while the corresponding men’s gong went to Balajied Langrin of Tyllilang Academy.
The highest scorers were both from Iaineh SC – Patrick Kharshandi for the men (80 points) and Elgiva Rumnong for the women (78 points).
The Most Valuable Player awards went to Iairy SM Sangma of Iaineh (women) and Donbok Thongni of Tyllilang Academy (men).
