Shillong, Feb 11: The Meghalaya cricket team won their opening match of the Women’s Cricket U-19 One Day League plate group by eight wickets over Mizoram in Dehradun today.
Meghalaya, who won the toss and chose to field first, bowled and fielded superbly to dismiss Mizoram for 95 in 33.2 overs. Deiphibapynshngain L Mawnai had astonishing figures of 3/7 from six overs bowled, while Wahlang (2/10) and Rubi Chetri (2/24) took a couple of wickets each. Thymmei Lyngdoh also contributed a wicket to the cause, finishing with 1/17.
Mawnai and captain Hajong opened the batting for Meghalaya in the chase and put on 35 runs for the first wicket before Mawnai fell for seven. Hajong dominated that partnership, but would go on to be run out for 28. Chetri (22 not out) and Suriti (9 not out) then steered Meghalaya to victory, reaching 96/2 in a patient 34.5 overs.
Meghalaya will be in action again tomorrow when they take on Nagaland at the same venue. Nagaland had won their first fixture by 10 runs over Arunachal Pradesh yesterday.
