Wandahunshisha wins bronze for Meghalaya in national karate c’ship

Shillong, Apr 15: Wandahunshisha Mawblei (pictured front row second right) bagged a bronze medal in the girls’ cadet -54kg individual kumite (sparring) event at the recently concluded Karate Association of India Cadet, Junior & U-21 National Karate Championship, the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association said today.

The bronze was Meghalaya’s only medal in what was a very competitive field.

The tournament ran from 5th to 7th April at the Deshbhakta Tarum Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in Guwahati.

Meghalaya were led by Mingson Rymbai and Glikerius Buhphang. In addition, Donboklang Lyngdoh, Arjun Sewa and Linza Fenny Syiem were technical officials in this championship.

Mawblei has been picking up plenty of medals in her young career, including a gold in the 6th NESKFI North East Karate Championship in Dimapur in December, a silver in the previous edition of the Cadet, Junior & U-21 Championship in New Delhi and double gold in the Kanninjuku National Shoto Cup Karate Championship in Gujarat.
