Shillong, May 27: Redeem Tlang and five other players have been released by new Indian team coach Igor Stimac from the preparatory camp that is underway in New Delhi.

The other five are Vishal Kaith, Germanpreet Singh, Nandha Kumar, Bikramjit Singh and Sumeet Passi, the All India Football Federation reported on its website today.

After a highly impressive season in the Indian Super League for NorthEast United, Tlang, who won five emerging player awards and scored a crucial goal in the semifinals, earned a call-up for the national camp along with 36 others where he mixed it up with top footballers, like Jackichand Singh and Sunil Chhetri.

Competition among midfielders to get into the team is intense and, although disappointing, it is little surprise that the 24-year-old midfielder from Meghalaya wasn’t picked for further consideration, though he has been given an individual programme to work on in order to improve his fitness, technical and tactical abilities.

“I am very happy with the efforts put in by all the players till now. There is a serious competition to get into that final list of 23 who will represent the country in the King’s Cup (in Thailand next month),” Stimac said. “We have released six players who are to go back. Each one of them has been given an individual working programme, which is to be executed in the future by themselves in an attempt to improve on their fitness, technical and tactical abilities.”

Expect to see him in Indian colours someday soon.
