Shillong, Jun 10: Eight Meghalaya kickboxers who won medals for India at the Nepal Open International Kickboxing Championship were felicitated by the Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association here.
The tournament ran from 31st May to 4th June in Kathmandu. All eight of the Meghalaya kickboxers in the Indian team won a medal.
Out of India’s 39 gold medals, five were won by Meghalayans – Daniella I Wanda Mylliemngap (Low Kick Junior Girls -52kg), Babit Kharsahnoh (Low Kick Senior Men -51kg), Pynshrainmiki Rabon (Low Kick Senior Men -67kg), Heimonmi Suchiang (Full Contact Junior Boys -54kg), Hameshaniah Suiam (Point Fighting Senior Men -57kg).
In addition Khrawjutang M Kharsyntiew (Low Kick Senior Men -57kg) picked up a silver, while Jezerel Sangma (Full Contact Senior Men -51kg) and Obinas Warjri (Full Contact Senior Men -54kg) brought home bronze medals from the international competition.
At the felicitation function international bodybuilders Balaphang Kharshiing and Claudia Jessica Bamon were present to speak to the kickboxers and encourage them further.
Sangma also expressed his gratefulness to the family members of the late politician Purno A Sangma for their support to him, which enabled him to travel to Nepal and come home with a medal for the country.
The total Indian medal tally was 39 gold, 15 silver and nine bronze medals.
The MSKA is also preparing to take part in the Senior National Kickboxing Championship 2019, which will be held in July.
