St Anthony’s College win Meghalaya State Olympic Association sports quiz

Shillong, Jun 18: The Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA), as part of its celebrations of Olympic Day 2019, organised an Inter-College Sports Quiz Competition at U Soso Tham Auditorium here today.

St Anthony’s College, represented by Ricarldy Dkhar and Roger V Kharbamon, won the quiz by bagging a total of 110 points. In second were Synod College with 70 points and third place went to Women’s College (40 points).

In all six colleges took part in the quiz, which was played over 11 rounds and which covered a range of brainteaser topics that provided plenty of fun for the participants and audience alike.

East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Matsiewdor War Nongbri was the chief guest on the occasion.

A noted former archer and archery judge and administrator, War Nongbri urged the students to take the core values of the Olympic Games to heart.

“The International Olympic Committee is committed to building a better world through sports, mutual understanding, tolerance, respect and education,” War Nongbri said. “You as the youth will take these Olympic core values forwards and I call upon you to be part of this beautiful Olympic movement.”

She also expressed her appreciation for the MSOA in holding these Olympic Day celebrations in the form of the sports quiz and the upcoming 10km race on Saturday morning.

“All the associations affiliated with the MSOA have given their heart and soul to develop sports in this state and we’ve seen the results nationally and internationally,” War Nongbri said. “But India still has a lot to offer and we have yet to see our full potential in Olympic medals. I know that if we move ahead in the right spirit we will get there.”

More than 200 runners have registered for Saturday’s race and the non-competitive ‘Run for Fun’. Those still wishing to register can do so at the MSOA office in the U Tirot Sing Indoor Stadium building in Lachumiere.
