Shillong, Jun 22: Shillong Lajong registered a 2-1 victory over Nangkiew Irat in the U-18 Shillong Premier League at Third Ground, Polo, today.
Sangti Janai Shianglong put Lajong ahead on the half hour mark and Nangkiew would go on to concede a penalty in first half stoppage time, which was conceded by SLFC captain Dajied Wanshnong. This was the first time all season that Nangkiew conceded more than one goal in a game.
Nangkiew looked more assured when they had the ball, but that assurance seemed to slip when they got close to the opposition goal.
Nevertheless they were able to pull a goal back in the 57th minute through Albert Nongsiej. He is Nangkiew’s top scorer with five goals.
There are now three teams level at the top of the standings, with 16 points each – Shillong Lajong, Mawkhar and Langsning. Head-to-head would normally be used to separate teams tied on points, but Mawkhar have yet to play the other two. Langsning, of course, lost earlier to Lajong 1-0. Goal difference, however, would still put Langsning at the top; they have the best goal difference of the lot at +22, followed by Mawkhar’s +17 and Lajong’s +8. SLFC, though, still have a game in hand over the other two clubs.
On Monday Rangdajied United are scheduled to take on Smit at Third Ground, while Laban are scheduled to face Nongrim Hills at the JN Stadium. Both matches will begin at 3:45PM.
