Shillong, Jun 24: Second from bottom Laban delivered a shock to Nongrim Hills’ system with a 4-0 victory in their U-18 Shillong Premier League match at the JN Stadium, Polo, today.
It was also a goal fest over at Third Ground where Rangdajied United defeated Smit 5-1.
Laban’s result was completely unexpected, however, as they had lost all six of their previous games after starting out their season with a 2-1 win over Smit.
P Marwein bagged a hat-trick for Laban, scoring in the 15th, 54th and 75th minutes for the fourth treble this season. Firstbornstar Lyngkhoi also got his name on the scoresheet in the 35th minute.
Nongrim are one of the top sides this season and had won three, lost one and drawn two of their previous outings.
Victory takes Laban to six points, but they remain in penultimate position as Nongkrem, who have head-to-head advantage over Laban, also have six points.
Meanwhile, Rangdajied moved up to fourth place in the table, with 13 points from seven games.
Oresterwell Langshiang picked up a brace of goals (26’, 45’), while Pynkupbor Kharbteng (17’) and George L Nongrang (36’) also scored in the first half.
RUFC led 4-0 going into half time, keeping their clean sheet record intact; they are the only club who have yet to concede a goal in the first 45 minutes.
Smit, however, did find a goal early in the second half through Freddy Khyriemmujat in the 51st minute, but Rangdajied earned a stoppage time goal by Fernando Sohkhlet to restore their four-goal margin.
Tomorrow, at Third Ground, Mawkhar will take on Nongkrem, while Marbisu will go up against Langsning at the JN Stadium. Both games will begin at 3:45PM.
