U-18 SPL: Rangdajied make hay vs Laban, Nongrim best Smit

Shillong, Jun 27: Nongrim Hills put defeat in their last match behind them to register a 2-1 victory against Smit in the U-18 Shillong Premier League at Third Ground, Polo, today.

Meanwhile, Rangdajied United smashed 10 goals past Laban in the second fixture, with Oresterwell Langshiang producing a hat-trick.

Nongrim, a team that were comfortably in the top half of the table, suffered a shock 4-0 defeat to Laban on Monday and they were pushed by Smit today as well, but snuck over the line with three points.

Banshemphang Kurbah put Nongrim ahead in the 40th minute, but Smit came back in the 65th via Pynkhlainborlang Nongrum. However, no sooner as they could breathe a sigh of relief at equalising did Nongrim score again, with Wanbantei Lyngkhoi’s winner appearing in the 66th minute. He is by far and away Nongrim’s top scorer with six goals now.

Later on, Rangdajied had no problems with Laban, walloping them 10-0.

George L Nongrang scored the 175th goal of the season in the 16th minute before Langshiang got his first two minutes later.

Fernando Sohkhlet then turned in a brace in the 36th and 44th minutes to put RUFC 4-0 in front at half time.

Laban had a period of respite in the second half, not conceding again until the 66th minute when Balamlynti Khongjee scored, but that opened the floodgates.

The remaining minutes saw Donboklang Mawlong score in the 67th and 70th minutes along with Bankyrshan L Mawphlang (78’) and a further two goals for Langshiang (77’, 80’).

Langshiang is now joint top scorer with seven goals to his name, just like Mawkhar’s Densil Kongwang.

There’s just the one fixture tomorrow, but it’s a massive one between defending champions Langsning and Mawkhar. The two clubs are among the three (the other being Shillong Lajong) who are at the top of the table with 19 points. The match will be held at 3:45PM at Third Ground.
