Shillong, Jul 7: NEIGRIHMS won the Inter-Office-cum-Corporate Futsal Competition, organised by the Futsal Association of Meghalaya (FAM), in the final on Saturday at the Laban Indoor Stadium here.
The final saw sparks from the word go when MeECL took on NEIGRIHMS. The match was fast-paced and NEIGRIHMS drew first blood with a goal from Brolington Warlarpih. MeECL did equalise in the latter part of the first half but NEIGRIHMS came back heavily in the second part of the match and went on to eventually win the game 5-2. Warlarpih was adjudged the man-of-the-tournament for his hat-trick in the final and also for his brilliance throughout the competition.
Earlier in the day, four teams fought it out to make it to the final. The first of the semis was between MeECL and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department where MeECL won 6-2. The other semifinalists NEIGRIHMS and S10 Healthcare Solutions Ltd, which saw NEIGRIHMS rout their opponents 10-1.
Altogether 16 offices took part in the tournament. The chief guest at the final was noted football coach Hering Shangpliang, who said that futsal can greatly help develop the skills of footballers in the state.
