Shillong, Aug 18: The Meghalaya karate team bagged a total of eight medals at the recently-concluded All India Independence Cup International Karate Championship, which was held in New Delhi.

The state team bagged two gold, one silver and five bronze medals, the All Meghalaya Karate-do Association said in a press release today. The team was led by Arjun Sewa, Linza Fenny Syiem and Mingson Rymbai.

Six of the karatekas’ medals came in kumite (sparring), with two in kata (form). Both of the latter (a gold and bronze) were won by Emika Deimaia Myrthong.

Medallists:

Emika Deimaia Myrthong – Gold in sub-junior girls individual kata (8-9 years) & Bronze in sub-junior girls individual kata (8-9 years)

Cheltis Shylla – Gold in junior boys individual kumite (-52kg)

Felicia Nongdhar – Silver in women’s individual kumite (-50Kg)

Naribasuk Bareh – Bronze in sub-junior girls individual kumite (10-11 years)

Daiaihunlin Pde – Bronze in sub-junior girls individual kumite (12-13 years)

Jeremaiah C Myrthong – Bronze in sub-junior boys individual kumite (12-13 years)

Jasper D Pdang – Bronze in sub-junior boys individual kumite (12-13 years)
