Shillong, Sep 18: The Shillong Dojo Karate-Do Association felicitated karateka Diana Kharbithai on Monday for topping the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate earlier this year.
Kharbithai, an arts student of St Anthony’s HSS, bagged the top spot in Meghalaya with 452/500 marks in the MBOSE results released in May.
The dojo felt it important that her “exemplary performance” in academics should be recognised.
Also present at the occasion were fellow karatekas Felicia Nongdhar and Ankita Koch, who have both won plenty of medals in state and national competitions. The dojo recognised them for their efforts and wished them all the best as they move to Dimapur after securing government employment through a quota for sportspersons.
Speaking at the felicitation programme held at the Don Bosco Youth Centre here, Kharbithai, an orange belt in karate, said, “In order to achieve success we need do what we love. Because unless we have passion for what we do it’s useless. If, for instance, we come to practice and we don’t have passion for karate, then I’m sorry to tell you that you’re wasting your time… Don’t worry about studying when you’re practising and don’t worry about practising when you’re studying. Know when to do what.”
