Shillong, Sep 20: Nongthymmai and Umphyrnai will clash in the final of the Second Division at the JN Stadium here tomorrow. Kick-off will be at 3PM.
With both teams having been in Group A, this will be a rematch of the very first game of the season when Nongthymmai came from a goal down to defeat Umphyrnai 3-1 on 12th July.
That was the only match that Umphyrnai have lost all season, while Nongthymmai have not been defeated even once.
By dint of reaching the final both sides have already secured promotion to next season’s First Division, but the title match will definitely be well-contested.
The two teams also didn’t have it easy in their respective semifinals, with both giving up two-goal leads. In Nongthymmai’s case, their 90 minutes ended 2-2 against Jongksha, but the former came through on penalties. Umphyrnai managed to win their last-four fixture before it could go to a tiebreaker, beating Group B toppers Laitkor 3-2.
In all, Nongthymmai have scored 16 goals this year while conceding four. Their top scorer is Balanstar Taro (7), who scored twice in the semifinal. Umphyrnai have scored 17 goals but conceded eight. Their joint top scorers are Robinroy Khongjoh and Maxaustin Wanswett (4 each). Wanswett scored one goal versus Laitkor.
