Shillong, Oct 11: Ryntih overcame a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with Shillong Lajong in the last match of the first leg of the Shillong Premier League at the JN Stadium here today.
Phrangki Buam scored a blinder of a free-kick in the 13th minute to give Lajong the lead, while Mohammed Safique Ahmed doubled it in the 30th.
Lajong pretty much gave up on attack in the second half, and Ryntih piled on the pressure though they were continually wide until they pulled a goal back in the 82nd minute via a Fullmoon Mukhim header off a Sheen Sohktung free-kick.
Sohktung would then go on to score a 90+7′ goal via a free-kick just outside the box. Lajong were not happy that the referee had awarded Ryntih a free-kick for what looked like a handball by Aman Ahlawat within the penalty arc. Heated words were exchanged and that earned Kenstar Kharshong a second yellow to go with his first, which he had earned just minutes earlier.
Sohktung’s goal was the very last action of the match and Ryntih and their fans in the stands then celebrated a remarkable comeback.
The second leg begins tomorrow with Nangkiew Irat scheduled to face Rangdajied United at 3PM. The two sides had played out a goalless draw in the first leg.
