East Khasi Hills win first Meghalaya Muay Thai championship

Shillong, Oct 28: The first Meghalaya State Level Muay Thai & Pro-Fight Championship was held from 24th to 26th October here at the Mawlai Mawroh Community Hall.

There were around 150 participants from Ri-Bhoi, East Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills. The tournament was officiated by 14 referees and judges headed by Angelus Sun.

East Khasi Hills emerged as the champions, followed by West Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi. Gold medallists in the senior categories at this championship will take part in the National Senior Muay Thai (Elite) & Pro-Fight Championship to be held next month in Mangalore.

Certificates for those who qualified as instructors were also distributed to those who attended the seminar of referees and judges from 7th to 12th October, namely Joseph Maring, Iona Maring, Aiborlang Syngkli, Dauni Nongrum, Babit Kharsahnoh, Pynnehbor Mylliemngap, Blaseibok Kharbuli, Nathaniel Kurkalang, Pynsuklang Sumer, Fourwell Khongmalai and Paul Ronghang.

Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh was the chief guest at the closing ceremony. Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council Chief Executive Member Pyniaid Sing Syiem inaugurated the championship.
