Shillong, Dec 30: Shillong College bounced back after staring defeat in the face to draw 3-3 with Loyola College of Chennai in the College Boys category of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports 2019-20 National Football Finals in Navi Mumbai today.
Shillong College were down 3-1 in the 58th minute but managed to bag a point thanks to a stoppage time equaliser.
Like in their opener (which they won 11-1) Shillong College went behind first but the rest of the tale was far different.
After they went behind in the 23rd minute, Robert Khongjoh equalised in the 29th off a rebound after a low, stinging free-kick from Pynbhalang Suting was blocked partially by the Loyola goalkeeper.
The Chennai side, however, went into the half time break leading 2-1 following a direct free-kick in the 41st minute.
Things went from bad to worse in the second half with Loyola extending their lead in the 58th minute but soon after Suting chipped the ball forward for Samuel Lyngdoh Kynshi, who smashed it past the opposition goalie to pull a goal back for Shillong College.
Seven minutes of stoppage time were signalled by the fourth official and in the fifth of those, Khongjoh was first denied by the crossbar before Kynshi was blocked by the keeper. Once again, though, the rebound fell advantageously for Shillong College and Khongjoh made no mistake with his second attempt to pull things back at 3-3. This was Khongjoh’s sixth goal in two games and couldn’t have been more important.
