Shillong, Jan 8: The Meghalaya U-19 and U-23 cricket teams were beaten by Bihar and Mizoram respectively in the Cooch Behar Trophy and Col CK Nayudu Trophy.
Requiring another 212 runs to win on the fourth day yesterday, Meghalaya were bowled out by Bihar for 65 on a difficult pitch in Tezpur to lose by 186 runs.
In Vizag, Mizoram took an eight-run first innings lead yesterday to post 322 all out in response to Meghalaya’s 314. Kishan finished as the best bowler among the Meghalayans with figures of 6/45, adding to his three from the day before.
Mizoram then rattled the Meghalaya top order, claiming the first five wickets for a mere 13 runs on the board before Rohit Shah and Yogesh Tiwari came together at the crease. The pair stopped the rot by putting on 112 runs for the sixth wicket before Tiwari was dismissed for 54 but there was no one else who could give Shah enough company and the wicketkeeper ended up being the last batsman dismissed, for 71, as Meghalaya were all out for 163.
That set Mizoram 156 to win and, though they lost half a dozen wickets, they were able to chase down the target today. Kishan bagged 1/28 (match figures of 7/73), but it was Aditya Verma who was the top performer with figures of 4/61 in the losing cause.
