Shillong, Feb 4: Punjab and Mizoram will meet in a rematch of last year’s final of the Junior National Football Championship for the Dr BC Roy Trophy after Punjab won the second semifinal against West Bengal at the JN Stadium here today.
Seilenthang Lotjem scored a first half goal in the 1-0 victory for Punjab. Apart from the 37th minute goal the match lacked spark, but Punjab did what they had to do to reach Thursday’s title match. Impressively, they have not conceded a single goal in the four games they have played.
In the past four seasons Mizoram and Punjab have met three times in the final of the Junior Nationals, with Punjab winning the trophy in 2015-16 and 2016-17. Last year Mizoram reversed the tide and defeated Punjab in the finale 2-1.
The final between the top two states and fierce rivals will be held at the JN Stadium on Thursday at 1PM. Entry will be free for all.
