Shillong, Mar 14: A stunning volley deep inside extra time by Mekyrshan Kharpran saw Sohryngkham defeat Langsning 1-0 in the final of the Shillong Sports Association’s U-14 Football Tournament at Second Ground, Polo, here today.
Both sides looked a little rough around the edges, understandable given their age, but they both created chances, with Sohryngkham looking closer to scoring, especially in the second half of the 70-minute match.
Neither team, though, was able to find the breakthrough and the game was thus taken to two 10-minute periods of extra time.
Kharpran smashed home his left-footer in the 88th minute to seal the fate of the match.
As champions Sohryngkham took home a cheque of Rs 20,000, while Rs 10,000 went to Langsning. The trophies, cheques, medals and certificates were presented by senior members of the SSA.
