Shillong, Aug 13: One day after their hopes of an I-League spot were crushed, Ryntih announced the signing of six local players as part of their plans for the future.
The six are (clockwise from top left) Mebankhraw Wahlang, Hardycliff Nongbri, Dawanchwa Challam, Ronaldkydon Lyngdoh Nonglait, Padam Chettri and Pynshongdor Shadap.
Nongbri joins from Kolkata’s Southern Samity and Shadap from Laban. The other four played for Rangdajied United last season.
Significantly, all six players have been signed on three-year contracts, which is a rarity for Shillong clubs.
“We have laid down new plans for the club’s overall journey to participate in big and notable tournaments within and outside the state and abroad like Bordoloi Trophy (Assam), Chief Minister’s Gold Cup (Sikkim), Governor’s Gold Cup (Sikkim), Laldenga North East Peace Cup (Mizoram) and Bhutan tournament in collaboration with partners Transport United FC,” Ryntih Managing Director Wallamkupar Kharpran said in a statement.
Yesterday the All India Football Federation announced that Ryntih were not successful in their bid for direct entry into the I-League, with Sudeva of New Delhi being picked for the 2020-21 season and Sreenidhi of Hyderabad for 2021-22.
“It’s with a heavy heart that the club express our sincere thanks to all those who have guided, worked and contributed in different ways in our journey during the bidding process,” Kharpran added. “We will chart a new course in order to reach the goals and objectives of the club and that the vision of the club will not get hampered due to one result of the AIFF.”
These signings and participation in the aforementioned tournaments will give Ryntih a chance to perform well if they take part in the Second Division League (the I-League qualifying tournament) next year.
