Shillong, Sep 11: Just days after reopening, Gold’s Gym, in the Lower Lachumiere neighbourhood of the city, was declared a containment zone from today after Covid-19 “cases/high-risk contacts” (the order doesn’t specify which) were detected there.
It was only last month that the state government left it up to individual districts to decide on whether to let gymnasiums reopen or not. They had been shut, along with a lot else, due to the coronavirus pandemic since March.
Tonight’s order from the East Khasi Hills District Magistrate states that no persons are allowed to move into the containment area and inhabitants within these areas shall not move out.
Any violation of the order shall entail prosecution under the penal provisions of the Disaster Management Act 2005.
Standard operating procedures were formulated specifically for gyms ahead of their reopening in the state.
