Shillong, Feb 20: Shillong Cricket Association B celebrated a massive victory by an innings and 217 runs over East Khasi Hills in the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s Inter-District U-23 Men’s Cricket Tournament in Nongpoh today.

The matches are being played over two days, with each side given two innings to bat. There are four groups divided between two zones, with Nongpoh hosting Zone 1 and Mendipathar Zone 2.

In the Zone 1 match, which ended today, SCA B completely dominated proceedings, declaring their first innings on 385/4, made at a rollicking run rate of almost 7 per over in 55.3 overs, with Joydeepan Deb smashing 187 off 105 balls, while Mrinal Das (80) and Biprodeep Dasgupta (79) provided some welcome runs as well. It was a difficult innings to bowl in, but Maialang War finished with 1/34 and Shongdor Shangpliang 1/42.

In reply, EKH were bundled out for 75 in 28.2 overs, with only Winningstar Khongjoh (14) and Muksodul (12) providing a little resistance. Aryan Bora scalped six wickets for just 11 runs, while Aaron Nongrum took 2/10.

Still leading by 310, SCA B enforced the follow-on and dismissed EKH for 93 in the third innings of the match. This time EKH batted for 49.3 overs and Marremdor Kharsati produced a battling half-century of 57. Bora claimed 4/31 to finish with excellent match figures of 10/42, while Nongrum bagged 4/3 as SCA B won by an innings and 217 runs.

Meanwhile, in Zone 2, North Garo Hills defeated South West Khasi Hills by an innings and 169 runs in the match that ended on Thursday. Man-of-the-match Success Marak scored 118 for NGH on the way to a convincing victory.
