Shillong, Mar 19: The Meghalaya Cricket Association’s U-14 Inter District Tournament 2021 began today in Mendipathar with victories for North Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills.
The participating associations have been divided into two zones – Shillong, Ri-Bhoi, East Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills and All Jaintia Hills in Zone 1 (based in Nongpoh) and Tura, West Khasi Hills, East Garo Hills, North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills. Zone 1 matches will begin on Monday.
In today’s first game Chukam Matsram Shira was named player-of-the-match for an all-round performance that saw him hit 26 with the bat and take 5/8 with the ball in NGH’s win. His team had posted 119 all out and then bowled out SGH for 51 to win by 68 runs.
The second contest saw WKH defeat Tura by 65 runs. Player-of-the-match Aibanjop Nongsiang top-scored with 56 as WKH put up a formidable total of 208/8 in 20 overs, with Abirim K Marak taking 3/35.
Harshit Prasad then scored more than half of Tura’s runs, smashing 72 off 35 deliveries as his side were restricted to 143/8 in 20 overs. Taker I Dkhar bagged 2/19 for WKH.
