Shillong, Apr 21: Meghalaya Police were 92-run winners over Sunrise CC in the first semifinal of the Shillong Cricket Association’s First Division here today.
Leading from the front, MLP’s Kumar Sewa (pictured right on being named man-of-the-match) made 70 from 53 deliveries after the cops won the toss and elected to bat first, finishing on 176 all out in 33.1 overs. Sewa’s partner at the top of the order, Ranjeet Roy, contributed 31 as the opening pair put on 98 for the first wicket. After that, though, Sunrise’s bowlers came into their own and grabbed all 10 wickets for the addition of only 78 runs. Aakash Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, with figures of 5/22, while Bikash Mahato claimed 2/34, Sanjeev Chettri 1/19 and Basu Chettri 1/28.
Sunrise, however, couldn’t match up with the bat and were all out for 84. Sulo Momin top-scored with 35, while Prakash Uniyal (3/10) and Wallambok Nongkhlaw (3/23) were the most successful bowlers. Morningstar Khongwir (2/10) and Ghutom Chettri (2/11) bagged a brace each.
Tomorrow Royal CC will take on Nongkseh in the second semi.
