Shillong, Sep 26: Both Shillong Labet and Tyllilang Basketball Academy exited the 5X5 Basketball Championship in Siliguri today at the semifinal stage.
Shillong Labet went down 52-41 in the last-four stage to Gangyap (both teams pictured together), a team consisting of well-established players, including Nima Doma, who has represented the national team at various international tournaments.
The Shillong team had some of the best talents from the state as well but Tyllilang’s squad, by contrast, was largely made up of players who are just finding their feet. That, and the fact that the team struggled to raise the finances required for the trip, made their performance all the more impressive.
Tyllilang went down in their semifinal fixture 49-27 to Kolkata Hoopers.
“Tyllilang girls gave their all at the semifinals and we are so proud for their performance. Even after getting knocked out … we will learn from our mistakes and give our all for the next tournament,” they said on social media.
