Shillong, Oct 15: The Meghalaya Cricket Association will send a 20-member squad to Kolkata to take part in the Women’s Senior One Day Trophy, which will begin on 29th October.
Debasmita Dutta will captain the side, with Daiaka Warjri her deputy. There are also two guest players approved by the BCCI – Rajni Lodhi (who played for Meghalaya last season) and Viancy Choudhary.
Meghalaya are back in the Plate Group this year after having played in last season’s elite division. Although losing all five games will not have been easy to bear, the women’s team was the first from the state – male or female and of any age category – to have qualified for an elite group and it will have given them tremendous experience.
Meghalaya will play six matches this year, with Sikkim, Bihar, Manipur, Nagaland, Jammu & Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh lined up as opponents.
The women’s team have been undergoing a training camp in Alur, Karnataka, in preparation for the one day tournament and are confident going into the event.
