Shillong, Feb 2: Meghalaya fast bowler Akash Kumar Choudhary has been selected as one of the players in the Indian Premier League’s mega auction later this month.
This is the first time that a cricketer from the state has been included in the IPL auction.
Choudhary is in the pool of uncapped players with a Rs 20 lakh base price.
The 22-year-old has played 30 times for the Meghalaya men’s senior team in first-class matches, List A and T20 and taken 43 wickets in all. Choudhary’s senior team debut came in 2019.
In T20 cricket, he has taken 19 wickets at an average of 20.78. His best figures are 3/19, which he claimed against Sikkim in November.
Choudhary has also represented the state and combined teams (before Meghalaya received full BCCI membership) in various age categories.
Three other Meghalaya players – Kishan Lyngdoh, guest professional Chirag Khurana and Himan Phukan – had put their names forward for the mega auction. Phukan had received a trial with Mumbai Indians last year.
