Shillong, Mar 15: Sporting CC and Sputnik Spartan were involved in an extremely close contest, with the former winning by one wicket in a match that was fitting as the final to the Shillong Cricket Association’s First Division at Polo here today.
Sputnik Spartan won the toss and batted first but could only manage 141/9 in 35 overs, with Kshitij Singhania making 25 and Dipankar Baruah 23. Man-of-the-match Manish had a highly successful outing with the ball, snatching 5/22, while Jiten took 3/20.
In the chase, Sporting CC also lost nine wickets but their last stand managed to get them across the line with 13 deliveries to spare. For the champions, Govind top-scored with 41 and Ajay contributed 32. Kush Agarwal (3/12) snared a hat-trick and Aravind (3/21) also took three wickets for Sputnik.
Arvind Singh, of Sputnik, was named man-of-the-series for taking a haul of 21 wickets this season.
