Shillong, Mar 23: Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools will open its first residential academy in the North East through a partnership with Assam Rifles Public School in Laitkor.
ARPS was designated as a ‘sports school’ in January 2021 and began training 100 boys and girls through the Sports Authority of India under the Khelo India programme.
The first batch of the BBFS there will start with the 2022-23 academic session.
“Coming from the North East region, I realise the potential here,” Indian football legend Baichung said. “The climate, food and environment play a vital role in a footballer’s growth and this partnership is the ideal opportunity to facilitate all aspects. For young footballers, it is important to have the right facilities and guidance to reach the pinnacle. I’m sure the academic and sporting facilities at Assam Rifles will enable our student athletes to hone their skills. We’re very excited to have extended our residential academy programme to every corner of India.”
The BBFS academies are training scores of students in football while also not neglecting their academics.
TSR has heard from one parent, however, that the Covid-19 pandemic did take a financial toll on the schools and donations from parents were sought for. This parent was happy to contribute, though, given how much the school had provided for their child in the years prior.
The registration for the 2022-23 academic year has begun and interested parents can contact the admissions team on 8448020010/8169522343 or register here.
