Shillong, Apr 12: Youngstar FC will meet Lamare SC in the final of the 1st Shortimai Knockout Football Tournament, organised by the Seng Samla Smit Pyllun and Smit SC, after winning the second semifinal 3-2 on penalties yesterday.
Lamare had qualified for the final after beating Paraladei Smit in the first of the semifinals on Saturday.
Yesterday, Youngstar and Khliehmawlieh Nongstoin were involved in a gripping match that saw Aenam Jyrwa bag the lead for Youngstar in only the second minute.
Lenny Lyngdoh equalised, however, 10 minutes later for Khliehmawlieh. Both teams were later reduced to 10 men after a fight broke out between players and full time ended 1-1.
In the penalty shootout, Youngstar came through 3-2. Their defender, Aman Ahlawat (pictured) was named man-of-the-match and received his award from Indian Super League footballer Redeem Tlang.
The final will now take place on 23rd April at 1PM. Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh will be the chief guest, the tournament’s Organising Secretary, Syntem Kamwamut Nengnong, informed.
