Shillong, May 27: Meghalaya will send a contingent of 32 athletes to participate in the Khelo India Youth Games, which will be held in Panchkula, Haryana, from 4th to 13th June.
The bulk of these athletes are in the state’s boys’ football team, with smaller numbers to take part in athletics, judo, swimming and boxing.
A send-off for the athletes and team officials was held today at the Sports Authority of India Training Centre in NEHU, with Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh present.
The Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs informed that the football team qualified directly, while the other athletes were given Wild Cards.
Sports Officer Darlene M Khonglam will accompany the state contingent as Chef de Mission and Yolinda Hynniewta as manager. Strength and conditioning expert at the state Khelo India State Centre of Excellence, Jyortimoy Deka, will also accompany the team.
The football team will depart for Haryana on 30th May, the athletics team on 2nd June and the others on 5th June.
