Shillong, Dec 18: Lawkyntang Tigresses won the East Khasi Hills Cricket Association’s U-17 Girls Challengers Trophy yesterday.
Three teams were involved – Lawkyntang Tigresses, Nohkalikai Supernovas and Sung Valley Lionesses.
The tournament began on Friday. In the first match, Lawkyntang fielded first after winning the toss against Nohkalikai, who made a massive 163/6 in 20 overs. Lapynhun Khongngain top-scored with 42 from 38 deliveries, while Sharaisuk Marpna took 3/22 in 2 overs. The Tigresses were then dismissed for a mere 37 in 8.3 overs, with Khongngain ripping through the batting line-up with figures of 4/9.
The Supernovas then qualified for the final by beating the Lionesses. The former won the toss and batted first but, this time, were restricted to 122/5 in 20 overs. Banrikordor Diengdoh struck 41 from 40 balls while Risukjai Lawai scalped 3/20. In reply, Sung Valley were all out for 96 in 15 overs, with Ibansara Kurbah making 25 and Libashisha Khongngain taking 3/14.
Nohkalikai would then face whoever won the third match, which took place on Saturday morning. Lawkyntang chose to bat first after winning the toss against Sung Valley Lionesses but were restricted to 75 all out in 12 overs. Badapbiang Lawai claimed 4/16, while Wanda Marwein top-scored with 17. In reply, Lawkyntang bowled out Sung Valley for 54 in 7.3 overs, with Nangwanbiang Diengdoh bowling brilliantly for figures of 5/7.
In the final, Nohkalikai, who had two great innings with the bat, were bundled out for 55 in 14 overs after batting first on winning the toss. Ibansara Kurbah took 3/9 in 4 economical overs.
Lawkyntang then required 12.1 overs to chase down the target, which they achieved with 4 wickets to spare. Evangel Christy Khongkliam, the Player of the Match, top-scored with 22 from 19 deliveries while Habandarisa Shangpliang nicked 2/4 for the runners-up. Nohkalikai’s Lapynhun Khongngain was named Player of the Tournament.
