Shillong, Feb 12: Shillong Lajong FC beat Corbett FC 2-0 in their first match of the Second Division Qualifiers in Kokrajhar today.

Player of the Match Amon Lepcha delivered both goals against the Uttarakhand club, scoring in the 37th and 77th minutes. The latter was pretty much his last action of the game as, after a job well done, coach Bobby Lyngdoh Nongbet substituted him out a minute later.

The match saw the return of Hardy Cliff Nongbri to Lajong colours after a gap of a few years. Other players, like Shano Tariang, Atlanson Kharmaw, Sambor Kharsahnoh and Pynche Tyngkan have been been brought over from other Shillong-based teams.

Lajong will next play against United Chirang Duar FC of Assam on Tuesday and then against Downtown Heroes FC of Jammu & Kashmir on Thursday.

The top two teams from the round robin qualifiers will make it to the Second Division where they will join 17 other clubs that have been seeded directly.

The 19 teams will be divided into four groups and play on a home and away basis from March with aims of securing promotion to next season’s I-League.

Today’s Lajong squad: Bishal Lama, Amon Lepcha (sub Iohborlang Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi 78′), Atlanson Kharmaw, Shano Tariang (sub Babysunday Marngar 43′ (sub Saveme Tariang 90’+3)), Hamedamanbha Wahlang, Sangti Janai Shianglong, Hardy Cliff Nongbri (sub Samchaphrang Lato 78′), Pursunep, Abhay Chhetri, Sambor Kharsahnoh, Pynche Tyngkan
