Shillong, Apr 19: St Anthony’s College won the Invitational Girls Basketball Competition, which was organised by Seng Khasi College as part of its golden jubilee celebrations.

The champions triumphed 36 points to 13 over Seng Khasi College in the final today.

The tournament, held with the support of the Meghalaya Basketball Association, ran from 17th to 19th April. Seven colleges took part in the knockout event – St Anthony’s, St Edmund’s, St Mary’s, Synod, Lady Keane, Shillong Commerce and hosts Seng Khasi.

The first day saw three matches played, with Seng Khasi defeating Shillong Commerce, St Edmund’s beating Synod and St Mary’s taking down Lady Keane.

On the second day, spectators were treated to a pulsating contest between St Anthony’s and St Mary’s. The match saw several twists and turns before St Anthony’s triumphed and progressed to the final.

That left Seng Khasi and St Edmund’s fighting for the remaining place in the title match. Eventually, the hosts proved too good and won comfortably.

The final was played today and saw a keen contest between the two teams, with St. Anthony’s prevailing 36-13 to emerge as champions.
