Shillong, Sep 8: Kharang SC beat Mawkasiang SC 1-0 in Group B of the Shillong Sports Association’s U-20 Fourth Division to take provisional first place in the group.
The other match, also in Group B, saw Mawphlang SC edge Madanrting SC 1-0 as well.
Mebateinam Dohtdong (29′) scored for Kharang and Pasborlong Khonglukong (28′) for Mawphlang.
The Kharang-Mawkasiang match could have big repercussions for the standings as they are now both on 10 points each. Kharang, while trailing on goal difference (+3 to +5), have head-to-head advantage now and this counts first when teams are tied on points. Mawkasiang have also played an extra match.
Meanwhile, Mawphlang now have 7 points, tied with Nongkolew SC. Their meeting ended in a draw and they also have the same goal difference (+1) but Nongkolew have scored more goals (6 to 3). Madanrting, for their part, are still looking for their first win, though they have picked up 2 points thanks to two draws.
