U-17 Girls’ Subroto Cup: Meghalaya knocked out in QFs by fluke goal

Shillong, Sep 24: Meghalaya were defeated by National Cadets Corps (Mizoram) 1-0 in the quarterfinal round of the U-17 girls’ Subroto Cup 2023 in New Delhi today.

The only goal of the game came in the first minute of the second half when an ambitious hoick by an NCC player fortuitously landed into the back of the net, helped by the Meghalaya goalkeeper having been off her line a little.

Meghalaya were represented in the national tournament by Saiden Secondary School of Ri-Bhoi.

They were by far and away the best team in Pool G, beating Goa, KVS and Uttarakhand to qualify for the quarterfinals but the knockouts were the end of the road.

Meghalaya had also gone out in the quarters last year. In fact the state has never won the U-17 girls’ category of the Subroto Cup.
