Shillong, Oct 18: Meghalaya’s U-19 men’s team were defeated by seven wickets at the hands of Delhi in their Vinoo Mankad Trophy match in Vijayawada today.
The toss has largely gone against Meghalaya in all formats this season but today captain Avinash Rai won it and chose to bat first. Lensbirth N Marak looked promising with an innings of 17 at the top of the order, while Kshitij Singhania made 11 at No. 3. However, Meghalaya went from 39/2 to 76 all out in 33.4 overs as the lower order had no answer to Delhi’s bowlers.
The second innings began in the best way possible for Meghalaya, with Shavian Blah taking a wicket with the very first delivery thanks to a catch by Da-u-la-biang Shangpliang. Then, in the next over, Bilgrak G Sangma had the other opening batter caught by Shubham Rasaily and Delhi were suddenly on 7/2.
However, the capital team managed to get back on track and reached the target in only 7.2 overs. Shavian bagged another wicket but got hit for a few runs by Delhi’s top scorer Tarun Bisht (42 not out from 16 deliveries) and he finished with figures of 2/49 in 4 overs. Bilgrak, meanwhile, ended with 1/25 from 3.
Meghalaya’s next and final match will be against Maharashtra on Friday.
Meanwhile, the state’s senior men will face Mizoram in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament tomorrow in Jaipur, while the senior women will play their first game in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy in Vadodara tomorrow against Pondicherry.
