Shillong, Oct 18: Meghalaya finished their Pool D campaign in the U-17 boys’ Subroto Cup unbeaten but still missed out on a quarterfinal place to Maharashtra, who had the better goal difference.

Meghalaya were represented at the tournament by Assam Rifles Public School.

Today, ARPS were held to a 1-1 draw with Maharashtra (Milli Putum scoring for Meghalaya) when they really needed to win. Only the top team from each of the eight groups will progress to the quarterfinal stage.

Meghalaya had won thrice before today – 14-0 against minnows Dadra and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu on Saturday, 9-0 against Navy School on Sunday and 1-0 versus Tamil Nadu yesterday. That gave Meghalaya a goal difference of +24.

However, Maharashtra beat Tamil Nadu 1-0, Navy School 15-0 and DNH&DD 11-1 to give them a goal difference of +26, which puts them through to the knockout round and sends the Meghalaya team home.
