Shillong, Nov 13: Meghalaya lost their opening match of the Senior Women’s National Football Championship 3-1 to hosts Odisha in Sundargarh yesterday.
Odisha went 2-0 up by half time in the Group E game with goals by Deepa Nayak (32′) and Malati Munda (35′) before Sunalinda Iawren clawed a goal back in the 51st minute.
Nayak, however, scored her second just two minutes later and Odisha held on to their two-goal winning margin despite a further three substitutions made by Meghalaya coach Iaikyntiewlang Nongkynrih.
Meghalaya will face Gujarat, who have yet to play, tomorrow.
