Shillong, Dec 14: Nongrah SC and Imson SC played what was effectively a dead rubber in Group B of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2023, with the latter not even trying all that hard. The score – wait for it – was 17-0 in favour of Nongrah.
Imson could’ve escaped relegation had they won the match but they’ve never looked like doing so all season and less than the full complement of 11 players took to the field today.
Nongrah, meanwhile, had already qualified for the semifinals as the second best team from the group. They still took full advantage and scored at will, with Dawandappura Pathaw (10′, 15′, 22′, 28′, 68′, 85′) netting six goals for a double hat-trick. That doubled Pathaw’s tally of goals for the season and, unsurprisingly, makes him far and away the top scorer.
The other goals were scored by Kynsaibor Wankhar (12′), Dameshanbor Gashnga (27′), Jonas Nongbri (36′, 45′), Shanbok Marboh (47′, 71′), Ronnie Pyngrope (63′), Blanang Khongsdam (64′), Sondingroy Rngaid (75′, 77′), Nangtei Kharlukhi (81′).
In Group A, although the semifinal spots were wrapped up here as well, there was still something to play for, as Sohiong SC took third place with a 2-0 win against Jongksha SC.
Banshemlang Janong (20′) and Keystar Malngiang (75′) were the two scorers. The win pushed Sohiong up to third with 9 points, while Jongksha dropped to sixth position. They are behind Nongkrem SC on head-to-head.
